To start things off, can you introduce yourself to the readers?

My name is Krystal Shenk. I am part of Foxtrot productions. Iím a mom, nurse, FX artist, actress, and so much more, but arenít we all!? Just call me a jack of all trades master of none!

How did you get your start to do FX?

I have always had a love and appreciation for the art of FXs. When I was in high school and college, I took some classes and learned the basics. Such as, prosthetic applications, and bruising.

I took some time away from the arts and makeup for a few years. I was an extra in one of emirís series on YouTube a few years back, did a few films as an extra or supporting role. We were then filming our second installment or the plague: biohazard blood, the FXs artist pretty much bailed last minute and I stepped in and helped with the whole film.

Emir and I have been inseparable ever since. I do almost all of the makeup in the film, with the help of cast and crew on set.

Do you think you've changed as an FX-artist since you first started?

I think it would be insane for anyone to say no to this question. I change and grow every film and project we do.

What advice would you give to someone wanting to try a career in SFX?

In my honest opinion, itís not impossible to have a career doing this. For me, itís not my career, but my passion.

Itís something I get to share with our viewers. I would say if u want to have a career doing this you have to work hard, make sacrifices, and be able to accept doors closing in your face quite frequently, and have great perseverance.

Also keep in mind that u are not perfect and need the help of others to excel.

If you could work with any artist who work with FX, who would they be and why?

I think most Horror FXs artist would say the same few names.

Tom savini being my top pick of those names This artist has paved the way for so many incredible artists. And come on who doesnít love gore!!

What FX have you done that you are most proud of?

This is a difficult question for me. I think I take such pride in trying my best on every film I do, but my pride and joy, which will sounds so simple is my blood. I make it from scratch for every film.

It looks so beautifully grim onscreen. Itís washes out of clothes and tastes like chocolate. This makes it so much easier when trying to get cast to get bloody.

What do you consider to be the strongest element of your work?

The strongest element of my work is my work ethic. I always try to give 110%, from helping choreograph scenes, co-writing, making gruesome images, acting, and thinking of new ways to make us as a film team stand out.

What monster do you wish you have done for a movie and why?

Pinhead from the Hellraiser franchise. This character is a complex and intricate makeup. Symmetry is everything. Any artist knows symmetry can be difficult.

What about the horror genre interests you?

I have always found the beauty in dark, grim and vile things. What interests me is a lot of other genres make you feel the same feelings a good majority of the time. With horror you are lead, in a subjective way, to feel a vast variety of feelings.

With horror, one moment you can feel fear, then feel the sense of safety. Itís an emotionally rollercoaster, I believe more people can relate to. Even though horror can be outrageously unrealistic it can still lead people to feel real, raw emotions.

Your favorite horror movie are?

Pretty much all of Romeroís films. Dawn of the dead being my all time favorite film. It was one of the first horror films I watched as a young child, and Romero in my eyes is one of the best, and founding fathers of horror.

What is the last horror film you saw? What did you think of it?

Itís not a film but the last thing I watched horror related was The new Dracula on Netflix. It has such great FXs. Without ruining anything, I will just say it has given a refreshing look on vampire films, prolly since the classic 1922 film Nosferatu.
